Deck Restoration — Yeronga
A large elevated spotted-gum deck in Yeronga had lost most of its finish after six Brisbane summers. Silvered timber, splintering boards and a fading balustrade meant the outdoor entertaining area had become unusable for barefoot family use.
The Challenge
Two failed DIY oiling attempts had left uneven residue that would prevent a new coating from adhering properly. Several boards had cupping and one had rot at the joist end. The client wanted the deck ready for a milestone birthday party in under two weeks.
Our Solution
Our team started with a chemical strip and rotary sand to bring all boards back to fresh timber. Rotten sections were cut out and replaced with matched spotted-gum. Boards were sanded to 120-grit, dust-extracted, and finished with three coats of Cutek Extreme CD50 clear timber oil for maximum UV protection in Brisbane's subtropical climate. The pergola and balustrade were treated in the same system.
The Result
The deck looked better than new for the birthday party a full four days ahead of schedule. The Cutek finish means the client can maintain the deck with a simple wash and re-coat every 12-18 months instead of a full restoration.
